FIFA World Cup Finals Preview

After a month of heavily contested matches between the best futbol countries in the world, we are finally down to two countries. France and Croatia are meeting on the pitch to determine the 2018 FIFA World Cup Champion. A rematch that is 20 years in the making (more in that later). Yes, Croatia is in the finals. If you were one of my followers from my other site, you would have known that my favorites were Belgium and Croatia. Unfortunately, Belgium lost to France in the Semifinals 1-0 and took on England for the third place position in the World Cup. They defeated England 2-0 and proved the doubters wrong with a great run in 2018, maybe 2022 can be their year to finish as champions.

But back to France, they seemingly look unstoppable at any end of the pitch. Hugo LLoris is one of the best goal keepers in the world and in front of him are some of the better defenders, Raphael Varane and Samuel Umititi, each of who have scored goals for France. Their forward attack is even more difficult to stop, especially when we have no idea who will score the goal. Kylian Mbappe and Antonie Griezmann led the national team with three goals a piece. And Paul Pogba has yet to knock in a goal this world cup.

Croatia will have their hands full trying to stop France. They also have a group of forwards that could give France’s defense a tough challenge. Croatia’s Ivan Rakitic, Luka Modric, and Mario Mandzukic have led their nation all the way to the finals of the World Cup for the first time in history. Could the Croatian players, who play their club futbol in La Ligue, defeat France and some of their fellow club teammates and foes? The last time Croatia had the chance to make the finals, they lost to France 2-1. That was in the 1998 World Cup. It was also the first time France had made it to the World Cup Finals. As the host country in 1998, France defeated Brazil and claimed their first World Cup title. Now in 2018, France looks to claim their second, but will Croatia get revenge on their nation’s loss and became the 2018 World Cup Champions?

I know I am cheering for them too, but how about you? Comment and share with your predictions on who’s winning the Cup!
