In the unfortunate case you didn’t get to watch sports this past weekend, Fourth Quarter Sports has a recap of the events you may have missed. Let’s get you all caught up!

NFL

Larry Fitzgerald Passes Terrell Owens on the All-Time Receiving Yards List

In a losing effort for the Cardinals, WR Larry Fitzgerald moved into second place on the all-time receiving yards list. Fitzgerald and his 50 receiving yards moved him past Hall of Fame WR Terrell Owens. Fitzgerald now sits behind only one WR. That receiver is Jerry Rice. With about 7,000 more yards than Fitzgerald, Rice likely won’t be passed by the Cardinals’ legend, but it’s still impressive what Fitzgerald has accomplished.

Brees Passes Favre on the Career TD Pass List

Another NFL great moved up on another all-time list. QB Drew Brees moved into second place on the all-time TD pass list in a dominating 51-14 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. With three TD passes, Brees passed Brett Favre to move into second place, now only behind Peyton Manning. Manning has 539 career passing TDs, which is 30 more than Brees’ 509. It’s definitely not out of reach for Brees to become the all-time leader.

Baker Mayfield and Nick Chubb Make History

In a 28-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons, Baker Mayfield completed 17 of 20 passes for 216 yards and 3 TDs. Mayfield finished the game with a passer rating of 151.3. According to the Cleveland Browns’ Twitter page, that passer rating makes Mayfield the only rookie in NFL history with a 150+ passer rating on 20 or more passes in a game.

Mayfield’s teammate Nick Chubb made his own history for the Cleveland Browns in this game. Chubb ran for a total of 176 yards against the Falcons, with one of them being a 92-yard rush. That rush became the longest in the history of the Cleveland Browns!

Titans Crush Patriots

The Patriots entered the weekend on a six game winning streak. That win streak came to an end against the Tennessee Titans yesterday. New England lost 34-10. The Titans held Tom Brady to a completion percentage of 51.2% for 254 yards and no TDs. They also held the Patriots to 40 total rushing yards. The Titans dominated the entire game, even not allowing the Patriots to score in the second half.

Bills Embarrass Jets

QB Matt Barkley was recently signed to fill in at QB for the Buffalo Bills. In his first game, Barkley led the Bills to an embarrassing 41-10 win over the New York Jets. The Jets were without QB Sam Darnold, but that’s no excuse for getting a 31 point beat down. The result likely wouldn’t have been much different if Darnold had been in the game.

College Football

Louisville Fires HC Bobby Petrino

After their 54-23 loss to Syracuse, Louisville has fired head coach Bobby Petrino. Louisville currently has a record of 2-8 on the season. That 2-8 record includes a seven game losing streak and not a single conference win.

Ehlinger’s Late TD Pass Lifts Texas Past Texas Tech

After holding a 17 point lead heading into the fourth quarter, Texas allowed Texas Tech to come back and tie the game at 34-34 with under two minutes left. On the final drive of the game, Texas QB Sam Ehlinger threw a TD pass to WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey to give Texas a 41-34 lead with 21 seconds left.

Oklahoma Barely Escapes Oklahoma State

With about three minutes left in the game, Oklahoma scored a TD to go up 48-41 on Oklahoma State. Then it was Oklahoma State’s turn. QB Taylor Cornelius led his team down the field for a TD. Being down 47-48, Oklahoma State decided to go for two. The Oklahoma defense came up with a huge stop, which soon gave Oklahoma the 48-47 win. Their College Football Playoff hopes are still alive!

Alabama’s Second Straight Shut Out

After beating LSU 29-0 last week, Alabama made another statement against No. 16 Mississippi State. Alabama shut out Mississippi State 24-0. Two straight weeks, two straight shut outs for the best team in college football.

Murray State Comes Back After Being Down 31-0

Murray State kick returner Malik Honeycutt saved his team with a kickoff return for a TD with three seconds left in the game. Honeycutt took the kickoff back 79-yards to give his team the win. Equally as impressive as taking the kickoff back to win the game, was Murray State’s comeback after being down 31-0. Talk about a wild comeback!

The Weekly Top 25 Upsets

Here’s the list of the weekly top 25 upsets:

  • Wake Forest beat No. 14 N.C. State 27-23
  • Boise State beat No. 23 Fresno State 24-17
  • Tennessee beat No. 11 Kentucky 24-7
  • Northwestern beat No. 21 Iowa 14-10

Not as many upsets as we’ve seen in recent weeks, but there were still four top 25 teams who were beaten by unranked opponents.

College Basketball

Duke’s Cam Reddish Sets a Freshman Record

Duke freshman Cam Reddish broke a Duke record against Army yesterday. Reddish made seven three points shots, the most ever by a Duke freshman. The seven threes by Reddish was part of his 25 point performance and Duke’s 94-72 victory.

Zion Williamson Looks……. Really Good

To continue talking about Duke, freshman Zion Williamson has looked really good in his start to college basketball. In his first game against Kentucky, Williamson had 28 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. In his second game against Army, Williamson had 27 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, six blocks and one steal. There’s still a long way to go in the college basketball season and a long time before the NBA Draft, but Williamson has made an early case for himself to go first overall.

NBA

Jimmy Butler Trade

The Minnesota Timberwolves have officially moved on from the Jimmy Butler drama. Butler was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. What did the 76ers give up? They traded Robert Covington, Dario Saric, Jerryd Bayless and a 2022 second-round pick. In addition to getting Jimmy Butler, the 76ers also got Justin Patton.

I personally feel like the Timberwolves could have received more for Butler than what they got, but I can’t blame them for wanting to move on as fast as possible. Covington and Saric will be heavy contributors for the Timberwolves, while Bayless will provide some good depth. The 76ers have now positioned themselves to be true Eastern Conference competitors.

Carmelo Anthony Might Be Out in Houston….. Already

The Houston Rockets have played just 12 games this season, but yet the Carmelo Anthony situation doesn’t seem to be working out for them. A report yesterday said Anthony had been informed his time with Houston would be soon ending, but another report said GM Daryl Morey denied telling him that. Whether they have or haven’t told Carmelo Anthony he’s on his way out, the fact that there are reports of it isn’t a good sign for Melo.

Rain Saves New Zealand From Failure

Rain in Dubai? Not a common sight in the United Arab Emirates, a desert country. However, the one time it does rain in Dubai, it couldn’t have been better timed, if you’re from New Zealand. If you’re from Pakistan, it seems like an injustice was done.

Pakistan had put up an excellent 279-8, made up of Fakhar Zaman’s second consecutive half-century this series and scores of 92(100) and 60(59) from Babar Azam and Haris Sohail and had already picked up the wicket of Colin Munro by New Zealand’s seventh over before rain stopped play permanently. Both sides ended up sharing the trophy, since the three-match series was tied 1-1 with eighteen-year-old Pakistani pacer Shaheen Afridi being awarded Man of the Series, for his nine wickets in the series. – Aman Huda

Atlanta United Fire Their Way Past New York City FC

In just their second MLS season, Atlanta United has made it to the conference finals and has sent New York City FC, deservedly, home. Record-breaker Josef Martinez scored twice, once from the penalty spot in the first half, the next from a counter-attack in the second half, while Miguel Almirón added on with his majestic free kick. Maxime Chanot did secure one for the visitors, but their defense had let them down massively in this match. Atlanta United won 4-1 on aggregate and will play in the Eastern Conference finals on November 25. – Aman Huda

1.Another notable: Frank Gore becomes the 4th leading running back in history for rushing yards.

    2. Nick Chubb is outgaining Saquon Barkley. How is that for obtaining value.

    3. Hue Jackson returning to the Bengals sonsoon seems farcical in view of his inability to coach men in Cleveland.
