Week 13 NFL picks
Last Week’s Prediction Records:
Overall Prediction Records:
Kevin: 53-30 (Started Week 7)
Josh: 35-20 (Started Week 9)
Dan: 33-22 (Started Week 9)
Christan: 18-10 (Started Week 11)
After not such a great week in Week 11, our team bounced back really well in Week 12. Mickayeen had the best record last week, which can likely be attributed to him picking his Denver Broncos over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Good call Mickayeen!
Cullen is still our leader, but Adam is just four games behind, I’m seven games behind and Aman and Mickayeen are nine games behind. Week 13 should be a fun one! Let’s see who we’re picking for every Week 13 game!
Saints vs Cowboys (Thursday)
“It’s a must win for the Cowboys. Though the Saints’ defense has been playing out of their mind, I think Ezekiel Elliott will be running wild on the Saints’ offense. He’ll help them open up the passing game for Dak Prescott.” – RahimAli Merchant
Rahim is right when he says this game is a must win for the Dallas Cowboys. They need it to stay in front in the NFC East. He’s also right about Ezekiel Elliott running wild. During the Cowboys’ three game win streak, Zeke has rushed for 394 yards and three TDs. If the Cowboys want any chance of beating Saints, they have to let Elliott run wild. They’ll need to keep Drew Brees off the field as much as possible.
Bears vs Giants
Chicago currently holds the fifth ranked offense (points scored) and the second ranked defense (points allowed). We saw again what their defense can do in their Thanksgiving Day game against the Lions. The defense ultimately won them the game with a pick-six.
This week the Bears take on the 3-7 Giants, who hold the 22nd ranked offense (points scored) and the 25th ranked defense (points allowed). Doesn’t look like a formula for a Giants win.
Cardinals vs Packers
Last week the Cardinals were so bad, they allowed Philip Rivers to set a new NFL record in completion percentage and most consecutive passes completed. They got destroyed 45-10.
This week they play Aaron Rodgers. Although the Packers are a struggling team this season, don’t expect them to struggle enough to lose to the Cardinals. Based on what Philip Rivers did to the defense last week, it looks like Aaron Rodgers is in for a big day.
Colts vs Jaguars
“I love the Colts to make the playoffs and finish with a 10-6 record.” -RahimAli Merchant
Andrew Luck has been playing at an MVP level over the last five games for the Colts. He’s even earned himself a spot on my top five NFL MVP rankings this week. I won’t disagree with Rahim about the Colts finishing 10-6. With Luck playing at a high level, they should be able to take down the Jaguars (losers of seven straight). He’ll then lead them against the Texans, Cowboys, Giants and Titans to finish the year.
Browns vs Texans
“I wanted Cleveland for it’s hard going against Houston at home.” -RahimAli Merchant
Baker Mayfield has been on a different level since Hue Jackson left Cleveland. In three games without him, Mayfield has completed 75.7% of his passes for 771 yards and nine TDs. He’s only thrown one INT in that span. The Browns are also 2-1 over that time period, losing only to the 9-2 Chiefs.
With the way Mayfield and the Browns have been playing, it’s tempting to pick them to upset the Texans, but the Texans are 8-3 and winners of eight straight games. While the Browns seem to be getting better, the Texans are one of the best teams in the league right now.
Panthers vs Buccaneers
After dropping three straight games and finding themselves at 6-5, the Carolina Panthers need to win this game to stay in the Wild Card race. It’s a good thing for them they play the league’s second worst defense (points allowed). They need to take advantage of that.
Last week was the first time this season in which Jameis Winston didn’t throw an INT. That happened against the 2-9 49ers. If Winston gives the ball away in this one, it may not be so easy to overcome. The Buccaneers don’t want Newton and McCaffrey having more possessions.
Bills vs Dolphins
While Josh Allen didn’t have the best passing display last week (42.1% completions for 160 yards and one TD), he did find other ways to beat the Jaguars. Allen used his legs to rush for 99 yards and one TD. That’s what he’ll need to continue doing as the Bills take on the Dolphins.
The Miami Dolphins’ defense is second in the league in INTs (17). If the Bills want to win this game, they’ll need to find ways to move the ball while limiting Josh Allen’s throws. If he’s as inaccurate as he was last week, things may not go so well.
Broncos vs Bengals
Denver is on a two game win streak, getting victories over the 8-3 Chargers and the 7-3-1 Steelers in back-to-back weeks. On the other side of this game, the Bengals are on a three game losing streak. To make things even worse for the Bengals, starting QB Andy Dalton is out for the season. This has led them to sign QB Tom Savage.
If the Broncos can beat the Chargers and Steelers, they should be able to beat the Bengals without their starting QB and potentially best WR.
Ravens vs Falcons
This is an interesting matchup. Battle of the birds! The Falcons have struggled over their last three games offensively, scoring 16, 19 and 17 points. That doesn’t look so good when they have to go up against the NFL’s best defense (points allowed). Baltimore’s defense allows an average of 18 points per game.
The challenge will once again be on the Falcons’ defense, as now they have to take on rookie QB Lamar Jackson, who is 2-0 as a starter so far. Jackson’s passing hasn’t been great, but he’s finding ways to keep the offense alive with his legs. If the Falcons can find a way to contain him, they can give their offense a chance.
Rams vs Lions
Most of us are picking the Rams to win this game fairly easily, but Kevin is taking the Lions in an upset. The Lions have wins over the Patriots and Panthers this season, so they’ve proven they can beat some good teams. Or maybe they can only beat good teams who have a name starting with the letter P? If that’s the case, they won’t be beating the Rams.
I think the Lions could potentially hang around in this one, but when it comes down to it, I don’t think the Lions can handle the number three scoring offense in the NFL.
Chiefs vs Raiders
This game should have no debate about who the winner is. The Chiefs have MVP candidate Patrick Mahomes and the league’s second best scoring offense. They take on the 30th ranked defense of the Raiders. That spells blowout!
Jets vs Titans
This game is a must win for the Titans if they want any shot at making the playoffs this year. They started off well against the Texans last week, going up 10-0, but the rest of the game didn’t go in their favor.
However, Marcus Mariota played very well, completing 22 of his 23 passes for 303 yards and two TDs. If he has that type of game against the Jets, they should get a win. The Jets have all sorts of problems, and it feels like they’re still trying to overcome the embarrassing loss they took at the hands of the Bills.
Vikings vs Patriots
This game should be one of the better games in Week 13. Both defense’s are ranked pretty much the same in terms of points allowed. The Vikings rank 10th (22.4), while the Patriots rank 11th (22.6).
With the defense’s ranked so close, I wanted to take a look at the offense’s. The Patriots have the edge offensively, scoring an average of 27.9 points. The Vikings score an average of 24.1 points. I’m personally going with the best QB in this game, but don’t count the Vikings out. Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs can cause problems.
49ers vs Seahawks
The 49ers scored just nine points against a Tampa Bay defense giving up an average of 30.7 points per game. How many points do the Seahawks give up on average? 22.1. What reason do we have to think the 49ers will perform better against a defense who allows an average of 8.6 less points? None.
Chargers vs Steelers (Sunday Night)
“The loss of Gordon will set the Chargers back a bit this week.” – RahimAli Merchant
RB Melvin Gordon will be out for the Chargers this week in a crucial matchup against the Steelers. On the season, Gordon has 802 yards and nine TDs, with a average of 5.2 yards per carry. He’s also added 453 yards and four TDs receiving for the Chargers.
Backup RB Austin Ekeler has been productive rushing the ball, rushing for 409 yards and one TD, but he’s not Melvin Gordon. He’ll still be productive for the Chargers in this game because of his ability to rush and catch, but it’s not that simple to replace production like Gordon has given this team all season. While they’ll still have QB Philip Rivers to carry them, being without Gordon could hurt them overall.
Redskins vs Eagles (Monday Night)
Both teams need a win to stay in the NFC East race. However, this game is more important for the Eagles. Being 5-6, they need this win to get to 6-6. If the Cowboys lose to the Saints, they’ll be 6-6. After losing to the Eagles, the Redskins would also be 6-6. That’d put them in a three way tie for the NFC East lead.
The Redskins would like to win, hoping Dallas would lose. That’d put them in control of the NFC East once again. I think the Eagles will take this one because they’re hungrier to make the playoffs. They want to make the playoffs, where they can actually defend their title as Super Bowl champs.
