In this version of the “Buy or Sell,” we will take a look at the future and where it could take three teams. Join Aman, Dan, and I as we look into the future championship hopes of the Toronto Blue Jays, Daniel Jones, and Golden State Warriors.
Can any of us be right in our buys or sells? Find out what we think about them here.
Dan: With their elite young core, the Blue Jay’s can win a World Series within the next 5-6 years?
RahimAli:As hard as it is to believe, the Toronto Blue Jays could be the top team in their division in a few years. I mean, yes the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox are two of the richest teams in the majors and they could literally buy themselves the best record.
Let’s not forget about the Tampa Bay Rays who look like a playoff team this year. That’s why this is a hard sell, I mean I like the young core that the Jays have, but how can they get past their tough division who will repeatedly be battling for two or three playoff spots.
Talking about 5-6 years sounds good, but that’s also hoping they keep the core together for that long. I mean what if Vladimir Guerrero Jr. pulls a Bryce Harper and leaves his team for a better deal. It’s a great thought by Dan, but I don’t think they can win a World Series, it’s just too competitive in the American League and it also will be. I do wish it were to happen though.
Aman: If I’m going based off of the Toronto Blue Jays’ current competition, then no, of course not, but down the road, as the Blue Jays get stronger and the good players of the likes of the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, or the Los Angeles Dodgers age, the Blue Jays winning is actually a probable reality.
But this will only work if the Blue Jays’ key players remains with the team. Unfortunately, what I see happening is another team offering more money and a better deal to the likes of, how Rahim says, Guerrero Jr., leaving the Blue Jays behind. So, I’m going to end up selling this.
Aman: The Golden State Warriors will fail to win an NBA title for the next three years?
Dan:I buy that Golden State will fail to win an NBA title over the next three years. I think this is still a good team and will be in the playoffs and be talked about as contenders for a while still as long as their main players; Steph, Klay, Draymond and DLo can continue to play at a high level.
But I do agree that they will be taking a backseat for a little while after the incredible run they have had over the last 6-7 years. The other Los Angeles teams are going to take over that Western Conference division and are going to be two teams that will be very hard to beat when they are clicking.
In the long run, Golden State might benefit from getting out of the spotlight for a couple years but who knows.
Rahim: I buy this! I’ve been saying it all season that this was the last year the Golden State Warriors were going to win an NBA title. I didn’t think they would have gotten D’Angelo Russell the way they did. But regardless of that addition, it will be hard for them to repeat what they did over the past five seasons.
There is also that fact that Dan said about the Los Angeles teams. Whether it’s Kawhi Leonard’s Clippers team or LeBron James’ Lakers, I think the Warriors will finish third best in their division. It’s going to be a hard road back to the Finals for the Warriors and I don’t think their time will come again. So yes, I buy the idea that they will fail to win an NBA title for the next three years, especially with Clippers and Lakers now standing in their way.
Rahim: Daniel Jones will win two Super Bowl titles in his career and silence all critics?
Aman: I sell. Daniel Jones might win one Super Bowl in the future (and probably not anytime soon) but not two. Not with the New York Giants. Is he a skilled enough Quarterback to play in the Super Bowl?
Sure, I have no reason to argue against that. But a good quarterback alone isn’t enough to make a Super Bowl. In the last Super Bowl between the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots (sorry Rahim), the Patriots won thanks to a better defense.
The Giants lost an excellent offensive player in the form of Odell Beckham Jr., though they seemed to play quite well in their preseason game against the Chicago Bears. But come time for the season, will the Giants all-round be able to win games and not just rely on Jones?
Dan:With the New York Giants it’s just really hard for me to imagine them winning a super bowl anytime soon especially with Daniel Jones at the helm of it which is why I’m going to sell this.
Since 2004 Eli Manning has been at the heart of this Giants team and while he’s lead them to 2 Super Bowls both over probably the greatest football dynasty ever in the 2000’s-Present New England Patriots I don’t see it going the same way for Jones.
In 2017, Manning got sat in a game (only one game he missed in career). Yes, he’s 38 now but the organization has shown that no matter what QBs they get over the past 15 years Eli Manning is who will be suiting up for them on Sundays and who is Daniel Jones to be any different than anyone else?
Eli won’t be playing forever and coming off a 5-11 season where they lost their best wide receiver it’s going to be tough to mount any super bowl run especially being in a division with Dallas and Philadelphia. Not only that but you have young great teams like Chicago, LA Rams, Indianapolis, LA Chargers, Kansas City and Cleveland.
You also have your staple playoff teams like New England and New Orleans who stand in his way. As we saw last year defense truly does win super bowls and the Giants defense isn’t that good. If he wins two Super Bowls, chances are it’s not gonna be in New York. Sorry New York fans!
